Background (Preamble):
February 1, 2010
In 1997, Titanic, the disaster romantic drama directed, written, co-produced and edited by James Cameron became the highest grossing box office hit in history. The film was an enormous critical and commercial success, garnering eleven Academy awards, including Best Picture. Titanic captured the imagination of movie goers around the world and it’s fictional romantic couple, Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt-Bukater became household names. Although there have been many films made based on the tragic sinking of the Titanic in 1912, none could compare with the majesty and sheer movie-making brilliance portrayed in the 1997 film. The 1997 movie touched the public like never before and made life-long Titanic enthusiasts of people of all ages, even those who had heretofore shown no interest in the great tragedy.
This Petition proposes a 2012 Commemorative Titanic movie to honor the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic; to honor the memory of all those who perished in the greatest and most well known maritime tragedy in history; and to honor all those who have passed on, but whose lives were indelibly touched by one of the most heart-wrenching tragedies of all time.
Petition:
We, the undersigned, call upon 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures or any major film producing studio to produce a Commemorative Titanic movie to be released in 2012 in honor of the 100th year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Further, we petition that this Commemorative Titanic film be based in whole or in part, on the novel, Titanic: The Untold Story by author, W. Mae Kent.
